City Closures Planned for Juneteenth
Spokane will observe Juneteenth on June 19, closing City Hall, Municipal Court, and all public library branches. While on-street parking meters will not require payment, time limits still apply. Garbage, recycling, and food waste services will operate on a regular schedule, ensuring continuity for residents. Spokane's Waste-to-Energy facility and transfer stations will also remain open. Spokane 311 will be available for customer service inquiries via phone and online throughout the holiday.
Riverfront Park attractions, including the Looff Carrousel and Numerica SkyRide, will be open for visitors. The Spokane City Council will convene on June 23 for a legislative meeting, with agenda reviews scheduled for 3:30 p. m. Meetings will be broadcast live on CityCable 5 and streamed online. Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved Black Americans, highlighting its significance in American history.
