Fast Response Contains Suspicious Brush Fire in Latah Valley

Spokane, WALocal News

On June 18, 2025, firefighters in Spokane successfully contained a suspicious grass and brush fire in the Latah Valley, which was first spotted by Battalion 1 while assisting with another wildfire. The fire, located in the 2900 block of West Thorpe Road, was under an acre in size and required a wildland response for investigation. Firefighters from the Spokane Fire Department, supported by the Washington State Department of Natural Resources and Spokane County Fire District 10, engaged the fire and contained it within an hour. As crews began mopping up hot spots, investigators labeled the fire's cause as suspicious, prompting them to seek information regarding a dark-colored Ford Ranger seen leaving the vicinity shortly after the fire was reported. This coordinated response showcased the effectiveness of local emergency services in managing wildfire threats.

Authorities urge anyone with relevant information to contact Crime Check at 509. 456. 2233. The rapid containment of the fire mitigated potential damage to the surrounding timbered area. This incident reflects ongoing concerns about wildfire safety and the importance of community vigilance.
