Fast Response Contains Suspicious Brush Fire in Latah Valley

Firefighters successfully contained a suspicious grass and brush fire in Spokane's Latah Valley on June 18, 2025. While providing mutual aid for another wildfire, Battalion 1 noticed a smoke column and called for a wildland response. Crews arrived within ten minutes to find a fire burning under an acre in a nearby timbered area. The coordinated effort involved the Spokane Fire Department, Washington State Department of Natural Resources, and Spokane County Fire District 10. Firefighters managed to contain the blaze and began mopping up hot spots within an hour.

Investigators are treating the cause as suspicious and are seeking information about a dark-colored Ford Ranger seen leaving the area shortly after the fire erupted.
