Carnation Man Arrested in Fatal Shooting, Investigation Ongoing

A domestic violence incident in Carnation resulted in the arrest of Mitchell Brian Gaynor, 42, on May 9 for second-degree murder. Deputies responded to a 911 call where Gaynor claimed to have someone at gunpoint, leading to a significant law enforcement presence. Upon arrival, they found a woman with critical gunshot wounds, who later died at Harborview Medical Center. Gaynor displayed incoherence and appeared under the influence of an unknown substance during the incident. A search of his residence uncovered multiple weapons and drug paraphernalia, indicating a troubling environment.

He is being held on a $2 million bail and awaits further legal proceedings. The King County Sheriff's Office confirmed that Major Crimes is managing the investigation. Prosecutors expect to receive case referrals for a charging decision shortly after May 14.
