Ames Lake Bridge Reopens April 25 with Safety Upgrades and Restored Valley Connection
The Ames Lake Bridge on Ames Lake-Carnation Road NE reopened on April 25 after a significant 10-month reconstruction effort. The new bridge replaces a 100-year-old timber structure, enhancing safety by removing weight limits and improving visibility with a wider, straighter road approach. Tricia Davis, Director of King County Road Services, highlighted the bridge's critical role for commuters and the local community. Environmental improvements included the removal of toxic timber piles and restoration work on Ames Creek to enhance wildlife habitat. The total cost for the project was $7.
6 million, about $3 million below budget, funded by the County Road Administration Board and King County road funds. Crews will return for minor utility work in late May and June 2025, while traffic will be guided through the work zone. This reopening aligns with Earth Week, underscoring the project's safety and environmental significance. The Ames Lake Bridge serves as a vital route, especially during potential flood events, reaffirming its importance to the region's infrastructure.
