The newly introduced Community Van service by King County Metro offers North Bend residents a versatile and affordable transportation option. This initiative allows for pre-scheduled rides for various purposes, such as running errands, attending medical appointments, or enjoying outdoor activities like hiking Little Si. Operated in partnership with Hopelink, the program is designed to be community-focused, with volunteer drivers playing a crucial role. Mayor Mary Miller highlighted the importance of this service in enhancing public transportation accessibility. Interested residents can apply to be volunteer drivers, provided they meet specific criteria, including having a valid Washington State driver’s license.

The vans are accessible and available 24/7 for trips lasting up to two hours. Furthermore, each trip includes a complimentary Discover Pass, promoting visits to Washington State Parks. This initiative not only facilitates local travel but also fosters community engagement and support.
