Know Before You Go E-Bike and E-Scooter Rules in North Bend

Snoqualmie, WALocal News

As North Bend welcomes warmer weather, its parks and trails are alive with outdoor enthusiasts, particularly those using e-bikes and e-scooters. To ensure safety and compliance, riders must follow local traffic laws and specific regulations, which include restrictions on where Class 3 e-bikes and e-scooters can operate. For instance, these vehicles are not allowed on sidewalks or shared-use trails unless no alternatives are available. The article specifies that legal e-bikes must have a wattage of 750 or below, and those manufactured after 2018 should display critical information regarding their class and maximum assisted speed. Class 3 e-bikes offer pedal-assist up to 28 mph but require riders to be at least 16 years old, while the use of electric dirt bikes on public roads remains illegal without proper registration and insurance.

Additionally, the city enforces a 15 mph speed limit on trails and emphasizes the importance of helmet use for all riders. This guidance aims to promote safe riding practices and enhance the overall experience for users of human-powered and electric transportation. For detailed regulations, residents can refer to the North Bend Municipal Code.
