A Club of Their Own Wildcats Rugby Brings Grit, Camaraderie, and Character to the Snoqualmie Valley

Snoqualmie, WALocal News

The Snoqualmie Valley Wildcats Rugby FC emerged in January 2025 and has quickly become a prominent fixture in the local sports community, boasting around 40 players, including 35 from Mount Si High School. Founded on principles of respect, resilience, and community, the club welcomes boys in grades 9-12, regardless of prior rugby experience. Head coach John Delport, a lifelong rugby player from South Africa, spearheaded the initiative to introduce the sport to the Snoqualmie Valley. Delport's vision was inspired by his desire to share rugby's beauty while coaching his son and his peers. The club fosters an inclusive environment, ensuring every player feels valued and connected, with many members participating in multiple sports.

Practices take place at Centennial Park, where the team has expanded from eight players to two full squads, Wildcat Red and Wildcat Black. The Wildcats’ guiding mantra, “Never above you, never below you, always by your side,” encapsulates their commitment to community and teamwork. Ultimately, the club aims to transform lives through rugby, promoting not just competition but also lasting friendships and character development.
