In the Snoqualmie Valley, Ashley James has established a unique initiative called Works from the heART, which merges her skills in recreation therapy and artistic expression. With a bachelor’s in psychology and a master’s in recreation therapy, Ashley has dedicated over a decade to enhancing the mental well-being of various populations, including military servicemembers. After experiencing burnout, she pivoted her career to focus on arts-based mental health programs. Her art journaling groups, which began in her home, have grown into a popular monthly event at Pearl and Stone Wine Co. These groups create a judgment-free environment where women can express themselves and connect with others.

One remarkable success story from the group highlights a participant who, after gaining confidence, is preparing to lead her own support group. Ashley emphasizes the transformative power of creativity in fostering empowerment and resilience. Her work reflects a deep commitment to serving her community and promoting mental health through artistic endeavors.
