Heat Advisory Issued for Northwest and West Central Washington

Snoqualmie, WALocal News

The National Weather Service (NWS) has declared a heat advisory for parts of northwest and west central Washington, effective from 8 AM on September 5, 2024, to 11 PM on September 6, 2024. During this period, temperatures are projected to range from the mid 80s to mid 90s, which could pose a moderate risk of heat-related illnesses. The advisory emphasizes the heightened risk for individuals who are particularly sensitive to heat, including those lacking proper cooling or hydration methods. Residents are encouraged to drink plenty of fluids, remain in air-conditioned environments, and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun. In addition, checking on vulnerable individuals, such as young children and pets, is strongly advised.

Those working outdoors should take extra precautions, including rescheduling strenuous activities to cooler parts of the day and taking frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has also provided guidelines for outdoor work to mitigate heat-related risks. In case of heat emergencies, individuals are advised to call 911 for assistance.
