** Coming This April – Snoqualmie Community Center!
After years of planning and community engagement, Snoqualmie is finally set to begin construction on its much-anticipated community center in April 2011. The city council has awarded a $4 million design and construction contract to local firms, marking a decisive step forward after a long history of failed bond votes. The community center will occupy approximately 12,000 square feet, funded by mitigation money, contract revenue from the Snoqualmie Tribe, and real estate excise taxes. Future expansions, including amenities like a pool and additional multipurpose rooms, will depend on an $800,000 grant application. Community input will be crucial in shaping the center's design during upcoming meetings.
This project represents a significant investment in local infrastructure, aiming to create a space for recreational activities and community gatherings, enhancing cohesion and providing a safe environment for youth, thus potentially reducing their tendency to gather in less suitable public spaces.
