Snoqualmie Police Department Pauses School Resource Officer Program Due to Staffing Issues
The Snoqualmie Police Department announced on August 13, 2024, that it would temporarily pause the School Resource Officer (SRO) position due to staffing constraints, effective September 3, 2024. Chief Brian Lynch communicated this decision to the Snoqualmie Valley School District, emphasizing the critical role of SROs in ensuring school safety. During this hiatus, the department will deploy patrol officers to conduct proactive check-ins and maintain a visible presence at Mount Si High School and other schools. Additionally, these officers will provide security during special events, like football games. Superintendent Dan Schlotfeldt expressed support for the police department and acknowledged the challenges they face.
He highlighted the importance of the SRO program in fostering a safe learning environment. Both the police chief and the superintendent are committed to finding a solution and restoring the SRO position as soon as possible. The police department aims to resume SRO services during the first quarter of 2025.
