Snoqualmie Police Department Works to Reinstate School Resource Officer, Invites Community to Chat with the Chief on September 18

Snoqualmie, WALocal News

The Snoqualmie Police Department is making significant efforts to reinstate the School Resource Officer (SRO) position, which has been unfilled since September 3, 2024, due to staffing difficulties. Police Chief Brian Lynch highlighted the critical role of the SRO in maintaining the safety and security of students and staff within the Snoqualmie Valley School District. To address the vacancy, the department is actively recruiting a full-time, lateral SRO while also deploying daytime patrol officers at Mount Si High School. In addition, SRO Gutwein is anticipated to return to a light-duty role within two months as he recovers from a work-related injury, during which time he will serve as a liaison between the police department and the school district. Community engagement is encouraged through the upcoming "Chat with the Chief" event on September 18, 2024, where residents can discuss public safety and the SRO position.

Chief Lynch acknowledged the recruitment challenges faced over the past four years but reaffirmed the department's commitment to providing law enforcement services to local schools. The department aims to reinstate the SRO role as soon as feasible to ensure safety within the school environment. This initiative reflects the department's dedication to engaging with the community and prioritizing student safety.
