Snohomish County to Resurface Approximately 76 Miles of Roads this Summer

Snohomish, WALocal News

Snohomish County will resurface about 76 miles of roads this summer, addressing the wear caused by weather and traffic. The Paving Program plans to lay asphalt on seven miles, while the Chip Seal Program will cover approximately 69 miles, prolonging road durability for seven to ten years. Construction on 140th St NW/NE is expected to begin in late June, resulting in single-lane closures that may affect traffic flow. County Engineer Doug McCormick stated that proactive road maintenance helps save taxpayer dollars by minimizing more extensive repairs later. Pre-leveling work commenced in April, with chip sealing scheduled to begin in July and finish by September.

A temporary speed limit of 20 miles per hour will be implemented after chip sealing to ensure safety as the new surface sets. The Paving and Chip Seal Programs are essential to maintaining the county's 1,600 miles of roads.
