Everett traffic cameras have led to red light violations decreasing

Snohomish, WALocal News

Everett's traffic enforcement cameras significantly decreased red light violations, dropping from 2,977 in May 2024 to 2,242 by September 2024. The city currently operates seven red light cameras, with four more activated this week to enhance safety on Casino Road and nearby school zones. Warnings for violations began on June 30, with infractions mailed starting July 30. Traffic Engineer Corey Hert stated that speeding violations saw a marked decrease following the issuance of infractions. In 2023, Casino Road experienced nine crashes, mostly at night, whereas injury crashes at 16th and Broadway fell from seven to four after the cameras' installation.

The projected number of violations in the school zone was 915, but actual citations reached 1,340 in April 2025. These statistics underscore the cameras' effectiveness in improving road safety. The community benefits from reduced traffic incidents and increased awareness of speed limits.
