Everett utility bills for water, sewer to increase Feb. 1

Snohomish, WALocal News

Effective February 1, 2025, utility rates in Everett will rise, impacting water, sewer, and stormwater services. The monthly drinking water rate will average $32. 21 for single-family homes, while the combined sewage and stormwater rate will be approximately $104. 04. These increases are critical for the city to meet new regulatory obligations and fund four major capital projects exceeding $308 million, including the Reservoir 3 Replacement and the Port Gardner Storage Facility.

City officials, including Public Works Finance Superintendent Shaun Bridge, confirm that the revenue generated will be allocated towards bond principal and interest, as well as the maintenance of utility infrastructure. To alleviate the financial burden on low-income residents, the city has expanded its assistance program, now offering up to $700 annually to eligible households. There are also senior discount programs available for homeowners aged 62 and older, designed to further alleviate costs. The City Council approved these rate increases during a meeting held on January 8, 2025, emphasizing the importance of investing in critical water infrastructure. Councilmember Ben Zarlingo highlighted the consequential nature of these changes for the community's future utility services.
