Bottleworks Lane Urban Park Named in Downtown Silver Spring After Public Vote

Silver Spring, MDLocal News

Montgomery Parks officially named the new park in downtown Silver Spring Bottleworks Lane Urban Park after it garnered 71% of the votes in a public naming contest with more than 500 participants. Located near the Dacha Beer Garden, the one-acre park will offer various amenities, including a playground, fitness area, and picnic space. The site previously housed a National Tire and Battery auto center, purchased by the Maryland-National Capital Parks and Planning Commission for $7. 5 million in 2021. Initial construction began in fall 2023, involving the demolition of the old building and remediation of contaminated soil.

Montgomery Parks seeks to acquire a neighboring property currently occupied by a church to double the park's size, though negotiations have stalled. The park's design reflects input from the Silver Spring and Adjacent Communities Plan and public feedback collected during 2022. Planners envision a space that incorporates native trees and pollinator-friendly plants to enhance the urban ecosystem. Bottleworks Lane Urban Park is expected to open in spring 2026, providing a vital recreational area for the community.
