The Montgomery County Department of Transportation will provide free rides on Ride On buses, including Ride On extRa, Flex, and Flash Bus Rapid Transit, in celebration of Earth Day on Tuesday. Earth Day, observed every April 22 since 1970, focuses on promoting renewable energy and environmental awareness, with this year's theme being “Our Power, Our Planet. ” Montgomery County Executive Elrich emphasized the significance of public transit in reducing carbon emissions and traffic congestion, urging residents to participate in the initiative. MCDOT Director Chris Conklin noted a 20% increase in ridership over the previous fiscal year and aims to further encourage public transit use with the new fare-free offer.
