Celtic Cup Coffee will celebrate its grand opening on Saturday in downtown Silver Spring, offering a vibrant day filled with live Irish music and coffee roasting demonstrations. Founded by former NASA computer scientist Doug Ilg, the coffee shop aims to create a community space for coffee lovers. Ilg explained that the name "Celtic Cup" originated from a fundraiser for the Greater Washington Ceili Club, adding, “I needed a name that fit the purpose. ” The grand opening will run from 10 a. m.

to 5 p. m. , coinciding with the Spring Makers Market, which showcases handmade items from over 40 local artisans. The market will also feature live music and outdoor dining at nearby restaurants. Additionally, Silver Spring Ace Hardware will host a free workshop for attendees to paint terracotta pots, perfect for Mother’s Day gifts.
