Local restaurants Zinnia, Motorkat, and Takoma Beverage Company have launched a food drive to support the Capital Area Food Bank, addressing food insecurity in the region. The drive invites patrons to donate non-perishable food items through December 31, with collection boxes placed in each restaurant. The Capital Area Food Bank, which operates year-round, distributes over 60 million meals annually via more than 400 partner organizations, including schools and community centers. It also invests in programs that enhance nutrition education and access to fresh produce, aiding families in moving towards stability. Marketing director Frank Manganello emphasized the impact of rising living costs and job insecurity on food access in the community.

To encourage donations, contributors will be entered into a raffle for prizes such as restaurant merchandise and gift cards. Monetary contributions can also be made online to further support the food bank’s mission. This initiative reflects a growing commitment among local businesses to address hunger and help vulnerable community members.
