Vicino Ristorante Italiano, a staple in Silver Spring's Fenton Village, is celebrating its 36th anniversary this month, having opened in 1989. Owner John Eshun, who previously worked at Pines of Rome, has made the restaurant a community gathering spot, hosting events like candidate forums and jazz nights for over 25 years. Notably, George Pelecanos has cited it as one of his local favorites. In contrast, Sheger Spring Café is marking its 10th anniversary with a celebration on Thursday evening, honoring its dedicated staff. The café, which opened in early 2015, has established itself as a cultural hub, offering Ethiopian cuisine and a welcoming atmosphere.
