Silver Spring, MDLocal News

Montgomery County unveiled the first Federal Worker Career Center (FWCC) on Thursday, designed to assist federal employees displaced by the recent government shutdown. Located within the WorkSource Montgomery American Job Center, the FWCC offers tailored services such as career coaching, federal resume assistance, and job placement support. Council President Kate Stewart highlighted the proactive measures taken to address the unique workforce crisis facing federal workers. County Executive Marc Elrich stated that the center was funded by an additional $700,000 in the Fiscal Year 2026 budget to prepare for anticipated job losses. The FWCC will primarily cater to Montgomery County residents, but some events, including job fairs, may be accessible to the broader public.

In addition to FWCC offerings, job seekers can utilize resources from the WorkSource Montgomery center, including financial counseling and workshops. Elrich expressed gratitude to state officials and the Congressional delegation for their support while criticizing the policies that led to the current situation. The FWCC is located at 11510 Georgia Avenue in Wheaton and can be accessed online.
