Fenton Street-Wayne Avenue Intersection Reopens After Months of Purple Line Work

Silver Spring, MDLocal News

The intersection of Fenton Street and Wayne Avenue reopened to traffic, enabling Maryland Purple Line officials to concentrate on Sligo Creek Parkway's construction. The parkway will close for approximately two months starting September 22 as crews install light rail tracks and reconfigure the intersection. Montgomery Parks will also undertake roadway improvements, including culvert replacements and guardrail repairs. The Sligo Creek Trail will remain open during construction, with detour signs in place for vehicular traffic and pedestrians. In addition, the August Purple Line Newsletter features Daje Wellness & Spa, which opened in December 2024 in Silver Spring.

Owner Beth Mekonnen, a software engineer with a family history in spa management, provides a signature Moroccan bath that emphasizes purification and renewal. This service caters to the local Ethiopian community, filling a gap for traditional spa experiences in the area. The Maryland Purple Line project, a 16-mile route with 21 stations, is over 80 percent complete, with rail installation exceeding 60 percent and testing ongoing.
