Maryland Purple Line Officials Extend Fenton and Wayne Intersection Closure to September

Silver Spring, MDLocal News

Maryland Purple Line officials announced the extension of the Fenton Street and Wayne Avenue intersection closure in Silver Spring until September due to unforeseen utility conflicts. Crews have been working on the project since mid-June, installing rail tracks and reconstructing sidewalks. The completion of this phase is now estimated to occur after Labor Day. The light rail project spans 16 miles and includes 21 stations, with over 78% of construction already completed, aiming for a winter 2027 opening. Local businesses are struggling amid the ongoing disruptions, evidenced by Café via Roma's temporary closure and Sweet Sweet Kitchen's relocation.

Mandalay Restaurant & Café has experienced a surge in community support, with owner Joe Myint urging patrons to continue supporting local dining. Community support is critical for the restaurant's survival during the construction. Updates on the Maryland Purple Line construction can be found at purplelinemd. com.
