Sweet Bamboo Boba to Open at Former Moorenkos Ice Cream Caf in Downtown Silver Spring

Silver Spring, MDLocal News

Sweet Bamboo Boba is set to open a new location in downtown Silver Spring, taking over the former Moorenko’s Ice Cream Café site. Susan Soorenko, the previous owner of Moorenko’s, has been seeking a buyer to focus on her recovery from a car accident in 2024, which has hindered her ability to manage the business. She hopes the new owner will be enthusiastic about the product and aims to remain as a consultant. Sweet Bamboo Boba, which debuted in Severna Park in 2023, is recognized as Maryland's first self-serve bubble tea shop. Customers can customize their drinks by selecting ingredients and sweetness levels, enhancing their bubble tea experience.

The shop also serves bubble waffles and unique filled donuts, offering a 20 percent discount to military personnel and first responders. Although owners Tien Peng Ho and Olesea Maleeva have not revealed an official opening date, they have provided a sign with a QR code to follow their Instagram for updates. This expansion reflects the growing popularity of bubble tea in the region.
