George Clinton Joins Harbor Bank for Downtown Silver Spring Branch Opening and Art Exhibition

Silver Spring, MDLocal News

The Harbor Bank of Maryland hosted an event with George Clinton to celebrate the opening of its new branch in downtown Silver Spring. The evening included an exhibition of Clinton's Thangularity Mothership sculpture and a conversation with President John Lewis. Lewis highlighted the bank's mission to provide financial access to communities historically marginalized by mainstream banking. Established in 1982, Harbor Bank has expanded its assets to over $400 million while focusing on minority-owned businesses and first-time homebuyers. The new branch joins the bank's existing loan production office in the Station Square complex.

Lewis noted the importance of building trust in banking relationships, especially in light of historical discrimination. The bank also supports real estate developers and entrepreneurship through various programs. A public grand opening ceremony is planned for September 23.
