MHP Begins Relief Effort After Water Main Break at Wayne Manchester Towers

Silver Spring, MDLocal News

Silver Spring housing nonprofit MHP is raising funds to assist families displaced by flooding at Wayne Manchester Towers following a water main break on July 25. The incident, caused by unmarked utility line work during Maryland Purple Line construction, affected 50 individuals and condemned four apartments. Currently, impacted residents are temporarily housed in nearby hotels but are under pressure to secure new housing. MHP is mobilizing resources to support these families at the request of the Montgomery County Government and with assistance from the Purple Line team. While the affected building is not under MHP's management, the organization aims to preserve the character of Long Branch amid ongoing transit developments.

The Maryland Purple Line project, which spans 16 miles and includes 21 stations, is approximately 80% complete and expected to open in winter 2027. Donations for relief efforts are tax-deductible and can be made through MHP's website. Community support is crucial in helping these families recover from their losses.
