North Seattle business closes after bullet hits monitor in Aurora Avenue shootout

Seattle, WALocal News

Empire Insurance Brokers has decided to close its North Seattle office after a disturbing shootout along Aurora Avenue North left a bullet lodged in a monitor at their front desk. Owner Ryan Ferrie stated that this incident was the tipping point, as the business has been grappling with ongoing crime issues, including gun violence, drug activity, and prostitution. The area has become a hotspot for gang activity and turf wars, leading to significant concerns for local entrepreneurs. Ferrie highlighted previous incidents of theft, vandalism, and the overall decline of the neighborhood's safety. Surveillance footage from the shootout showed a woman diving for cover, illustrating the immediate dangers to those nearby.

Many longtime customers expressed their disappointment over the closure, emphasizing the impact of violence on community businesses. Empire Insurance Brokers plans to transition its employees to its Everett location as the situation continues to worsen. The Seattle Police Department has been contacted for further details, but they have not yet responded.
