16-year-old killed in Capitol Hill protest zone shooting identified

Seattle, WALocal News

Antonio Mays, Jr. , a 16-year-old, was shot and killed during a protest in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle early Monday morning. He was found dead in a white Jeep Cherokee, while a 14-year-old was critically injured in the same incident. Seattle Police did not immediately enter the protest zone but later collected evidence after one victim was transported for medical care. Mays' family is actively seeking information from the public to understand the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

A memorial has been established near the site of the incident, featuring flowers and artwork from the protest camp. The Seattle Police Department has urged anyone with details to call their Violent Crimes tip line. This incident follows another shooting earlier in June that claimed the life of 19-year-old Lorenzo Anderson, for which no arrests have been made. As the city removes barriers around the protest area, the community continues to grapple with the violence.
