Police Victimsuspect shot in chest at 10th and Pike UPDATE Accidentally shot himself

Seattle, WALocal News

A man was shot in the chest amid a fight at 10th and Pike in Seattle early Thursday morning, with police stating he accidentally shot himself. Witnesses indicated that during an altercation, the 26-year-old victim waved a gun and threatened bystanders before firing the weapon and injuring himself. The police responded to the scene just before 2 AM, where armed private security was also present. The man was taken to Harborview Medical Center and is currently in stable condition. Authorities have detained several individuals for questioning but have not confirmed any arrests related to the shooting.

This incident is part of a troubling trend in the Pike/Pine nightlife district, which has experienced frequent gun-related disturbances this summer. In July, another incident involving shots fired caused panic among a large crowd. Police plan to book the shooter into King County Jail for felony harassment once he is released from the hospital.
