SPD makes arrests, searches for attempted carjackers on gun-heavy Friday night of crime on Capitol Hill
Seattle police responded to a series of gun-related incidents in Capitol Hill on Friday night, including an attempted armed carjacking at Melrose and Thomas. Witnesses reported that armed suspects threatened victims and used pepper spray during the altercation, but no shots were fired, and the suspects fled without causing injuries. Officers later arrested a 17-year-old male carrying a Glock after a report of an intoxicated individual walking with a gun. Another suspect was subdued and arrested after threatening security guards and claiming to have a firearm. The Seattle Police Department noted that gun crimes have been decreasing in King County, despite these recent incidents.
Police Chief Shon Barnes highlighted the need for community collaboration to prevent further gun violence. SPD is advocating for expanded surveillance in the Pike/Pine nightlife district to enhance safety. These events follow a series of shootings in the area, raising concerns about public safety and the prevalence of illegal firearms.
