With Capitol Hill neighborhood convenience store ShopRite gone, 15th Ave E now significantly less convenient UPDATE

Seattle, WALocal News

The ShopRite convenience store on Capitol Hill’s 15th Ave E has closed after serving the neighborhood for 30 years. Following a clearance sale, the store's inventory has become part of local lore. Hunters Capital plans to replace the ShopRite and the former QFC grocery store with a six-story building that will include 170 new apartment units and over 10,000 square feet of retail space. City permits for the project are not expected to be finalized until mid-2025, delaying demolition and construction timelines. In the meantime, various new businesses are occupying nearby spaces, including a temporary shop and a venue for markets and events.

The closure signifies a shift in the neighborhood, as residents lose a long-standing convenience. The retirement of owner Mohammad Abid, who ran the shop for over 20 years, adds to the significance of this change. The future of the site remains uncertain, but local developers are actively planning new projects.
