Tijuana institution Tacos El Franc kicks off U.S. expansion in National City

San Diego, CALocal News

Tacos El Franc, a Michelin-recognized taqueria from Tijuana, launched its first U. S. location at Westfield Plaza Bonita in National City. Co-owner Roberto Kelly announced an expansion strategy focused on quality over speed, with plans for a second San Diego location in Gaslamp this summer and a Nevada outpost to follow. The taqueria originally started as a street cart in 1974 and transitioned to a brick-and-mortar establishment in 1996.

Its signature dish is the roasted adobada, which Kelly recommends ordering crispy. The charcoal-grilled carne asada stands out with a topping of perfectly cooked pinto beans, while the cabeza taco offers a tender, slow-cooked flavor. On opening day, a line formed around the block by 11:30 a. m. , demonstrating the community's eagerness for the new venue.

Tacos El Franc has been featured on Netflix's "Taco Chronicles," further boosting its profile. The establishment aims to replicate the successful operational model of In-N-Out, which emphasizes quality and efficiency.
