Several Jewish groups to boycott San Diego Pride over headliner's stances
Nine Jewish organizations plan to boycott San Diego Pride, citing concerns about headliner Kehlani's statements, which they interpret as antisemitic. The groups, part of the newly formed Finest Community Coalition, withdrew after Pride failed to respond to their request to remove Kehlani from the lineup. Coalition member Laura Stratton expressed her dismay, stating that inclusive organizations should not participate in events that do not ensure safety for all. Mayor Todd Gloria also announced he would not attend, highlighting public concerns over Kehlani's controversial rhetoric. San Diego Pride has stated it does not endorse the political views of performers and encourages community attendance as a sign of solidarity.
The controversy intensified after Kehlani's music video included the phrase "Long live the intifada," which many Jews interpret as a call for violence. Kehlani has faced cancellations at other events, including a recent drop from a San Francisco Pride festival. The coalition's actions reflect growing tensions surrounding antisemitism and LGBTQ representation in civic spaces.
