Nick Canepa, a senior sports columnist for the San Diego Union-Tribune, began his career with the Tribune in 1971 and joined the sports department in 1974. He has reported on high schools, SDSU athletics, and professional teams, becoming a general sports columnist in 1984. Canepa covered significant events, including the Republican and Democratic national conventions in 1988 and the Republican convention in San Diego in 1996. He was part of the team that won the 1978 Pulitzer Prize for reporting on the PSA plane crash, showcasing his journalistic excellence. Canepa has a deep connection to San Diego, having graduated from San Diego State University.

He continues to reside in San Diego with his wife, Teresa, contributing to local sports journalism.
