San Diego is using the SeaWorld settlement to pay for park upgrades

San Diego, CALocal News

San Diego City Council voted to allocate $8. 5 million from the SeaWorld settlement for public park upgrades. This funding targets 15 projects designed to enhance outdoor recreation areas, making them cleaner and more accessible for residents and tourists. The largest project, approximately $3. 6 million, will focus on replacing bathrooms and improving the playground at Robb Field in Ocean Beach, with construction slated for next year.

Nearby Dusty Rhodes Park will also see enhancements, including new facilities and repaved parking lots. A South De Anza park will receive new basketball courts and improved parking, with construction starting in July. About $2. 8 million will fund upgrades across several regional parks, such as bathroom renovations in Balboa Park and repairs at Crystal Pier. These initiatives aim to revitalize public spaces and encourage community engagement in outdoor activities.

The investment reflects a commitment to long-overdue improvements in San Diego's recreational infrastructure.
