Sammamish residents invited to weigh in on first-ever arts plan

Sammamish, WALocal News

The City of Sammamish is actively engaging its residents in the creation of its inaugural public art plan, intended to guide the city’s art-related decisions from 2025 to 2035. Until now, the city’s Arts Commission has operated without formal guidelines, leading to decisions based on individual judgment. Framework Cultural Placemaking, a consultancy with a track record in similar plans for neighboring cities, has been tasked with writing the plan. The strategic plan will outline principles for fostering and interacting with the arts, including public events and art curation. Community feedback is a cornerstone of this initiative, with opportunities for input provided at local events like the Silver Jubilee at Sammamish Commons.

The city council unanimously supports the development of the art plan, seeing it as a means to enrich community culture and cohesion. The plan's development process will kick off with community input this summer, leading to the drafting phase in September. This initiative marks a significant step towards a more structured and community-inclusive approach to arts and culture in Sammamish.
