Sammamish City Council Approves Stormwater Management Plan for Pine Lake Creek Basin
The Sammamish City Council has taken a significant step towards environmental stewardship by approving a stormwater management plan for the Pine Lake Creek Basin. This comprehensive plan, building on a 2016 study, outlines six capital projects designed to improve stormwater management, with two already underway. The council's unanimous vote reflects their commitment to addressing aging infrastructure and preserving the ecological health of the area. Stormwater Engineer Toby Kanin asserted the importance of this planning process in the city’s strategy. Deputy Mayor Amy Lam raised concerns regarding septic system maintenance, prompting discussions on incorporating educational outreach into the plan.
The Public Works Department, led by Director Audrie Starsy, will oversee the implementation of the plan. Moving forward, the city intends to integrate the plan's recommendations into their Capital Improvement Plan while exploring educational initiatives about septic systems. This proactive approach aims to enhance water quality and maintain the ecological integrity of the Pine Lake Creek Basin for years to come.
