Mayor Angela Birney of Redmond has joined the America’s Housing Comeback Advisory Group, an initiative led by the National League of Cities aimed at addressing housing supply challenges nationwide. This advisory group is committed to improving public-private partnerships and pioneering innovative financing solutions for housing. Mayor Birney expressed her honor in participating, stating that every individual deserves access to safe and affordable housing. Her involvement reflects Redmond’s dedication to tackling the housing crisis as set forth in the Redmond 2050 Comprehensive Plan, adopted in 2024. This plan seeks to increase the types of housing available, including duplexes and townhomes, and aims for a net increase of 20,000 housing units by 2044.

Approximately 11,000 of these units are specifically needed for households earning 50% or below the area median income. The city has also completed a Housing Needs Assessment and a Housing Action Plan to inform its strategies. Such initiatives underscore the importance of local leadership in developing effective housing solutions.
