Redmond City Council Votes to Rebuild Teen Center
Redmond City Council voted 6-0 on Nov. 18 to approve the rebuilding of the Old Fire House Teen Center, which closed in March 2025 due to safety concerns. The new center will include a music performance space and a recording studio, reflecting the community's commitment to youth engagement in the design process. The decision followed a comprehensive community engagement strategy, involving online questionnaires and focus groups to gather input. A Facilities Condition Assessment identified hazardous materials and structural issues that necessitated the closure of the previous building.
As the project moves forward, additional community engagement will ensure that the voices of teens continue to guide development. The initiative aims to honor the legacy of the Old Fire House Teen Center while addressing community needs. Council members emphasized the importance of expedience in construction to quickly restore services for local youth. The project represents a significant investment in Redmond's future, fostering a supportive environment for teens.
