City Debuts New Asphalt Artwork in Downtown Redmond

Redmond, WALocal News

Last week, the City of Redmond unveiled its second asphalt artwork in Downtown, an artistic representation of the Intersex-Inclusive Progress Pride Flag. This initiative aims to symbolize the city’s commitment to the LGBTQIA+ community and make public spaces more inclusive. The artwork, located at a mid-block crosswalk on Cleveland Street, was created by local artist Jing Jing Wang, who drew from community feedback during the design phase. Mayor Angela Birney highlighted the city’s dedication to fostering a safe environment for everyone. Asphalt art is part of a national movement that uses creative expression to enhance street safety and revitalize public areas.

The Redmond Arts and Culture Commission played a crucial role in the project, approving the artist and design through a public selection process. The installation was finalized in late August, showcasing the vibrant colors of the flag that inspired it.
