Redmond Looks to Take on Supportive Housing Project
The City of Redmond has secured a significant partnership with Plymouth Housing and the Regional Coalition for Housing (ARCH) to establish 100 supportive housing units aimed at disabled and housing-insecure individuals. The transfer of property, approved by the City Council, is set to take place at a publicly owned site located at 16725 Cleveland Street. Mayor Angela Birney stated, "This is one of the City’s top priorities," underscoring the belief that affordable housing is a right for all community members. Governor Jay Inslee echoed this sentiment, stressing that collective action is necessary to combat the housing crisis affecting nearly every Washington community. King County Executive Dow Constantine congratulated the city for its "bold step forward" in securing more affordable housing options.
Councilmember Claudia Balducci added that each jurisdiction in King County must collaborate to tackle the regional housing crisis effectively. The project, which aims to provide 100 permanent supportive homes, has received support from various stakeholders, including Karen Lee, CEO of Plymouth Housing. The next steps will include community engagement and operational planning to ensure the project meets the needs of Redmond residents.
