Redmond Names Snowplows

Redmond, WALocal News

Redmond, WA, has officially named its five snowplows following a successful community contest that garnered 583 nominations. The playful winners include "Ctrl + Salt + Delete," "Scoop Dogg," and "Betty Whiteout," reflecting both the city's tech culture and the creativity of its residents. Mayor Angela Birney noted the significance of these names in representing Redmond's innovative spirit while underscoring the critical role snowplows play in ensuring road safety during winter storms. To enhance community engagement, the city will introduce a live snowplow tracking map, allowing residents to monitor their favorite plows as they clear priority routes. During winter weather, these plows are essential for mitigating dangerous driving conditions, using a mix of deicers to maintain road safety.

Redmond's proactive approach includes applying liquid calcium deicer before frost and clearing arterial roadways first. Residents are encouraged to assist by preparing for winter conditions and maintaining clear sidewalks. This initiative not only highlights community involvement but also reinforces the city's commitment to public safety during winter storms.
