Redmond Police Department Joins Program to Help Those in Need

Redmond, WALocal News

The Redmond Police Department has joined forces with BlueBridge Alliance to launch a program designed to provide immediate assistance to community members in need. Officers will be equipped with prepaid debit cards funded by local donations, enabling them to address urgent needs encountered during patrols, such as food, shelter, and transportation. This initiative not only supports individuals in crisis but also fosters trust and strengthens the connection between law enforcement and the community. Deputy Chief Brian Coats remarked on the importance of compassionate policing, stating that these small yet meaningful acts of kindness help reinforce the bond with residents. The program is funded through grants and local donations, starting with a seed contribution of $2,500 from the Redmond Police Foundation, matched by BlueBridge Alliance.

This initial funding of $5,000 allows officers to begin assisting residents immediately. An added benefit of the program is its cyclical nature, as community-raised funds are returned directly to residents through these debit cards. To support this initiative, community members can visit the BlueBridge Alliance website for more information.
