Redmond Looks to Take on Supportive Housing Project

The City of Redmond has secured a partnership with Plymouth Housing and A Regional Coalition for Housing (ARCH) to create a supportive housing project that will provide 100 units for individuals with disabilities and housing insecurity. This initiative, which received approval from the City Council, is part of Redmond's commitment to addressing the local and regional housing crisis. Mayor Angela Birney expressed her belief that affordable housing is a fundamental right for every community member, highlighting the project's importance. Governor Jay Inslee praised Redmond for its proactive approach, urging all cities to collaborate in providing necessary housing and services. King County Executive Dow Constantine commended the city for taking significant steps towards increasing affordable housing in King County.

Claudia Balducci, a King County Councilmember, echoed these sentiments, stressing the need for joint efforts in solving the regional housing crisis. Karen Lee, CEO of Plymouth Housing, expressed gratitude for the partnership, stating the goal is to create permanent supportive homes that will benefit the community. As the project moves forward, planning will include design adaptations to optimize the living space for its future residents.
