Redmond, Washington, will celebrate the grand opening of its new Senior & Community Center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 2 p. m. on May 3, 2024, followed by a family-friendly event on May 4 from 10 a. m. to 2 p.

m. The center, strategically located next to City Hall, aims to serve as a vital space for community connection, offering recreational, cultural, and social activities for residents of all ages. Mayor Angela Birney highlighted the community-driven design of the facility, emphasizing its role in promoting inclusivity and interaction. Daily operations will officially commence on May 6, featuring a diverse range of fitness programs and classes. Notably, the center has earned recognition from the U.

S. Green Building Council for its sustainable construction practices, particularly in sourcing wood from climate-resilient forestry. The City of Redmond undertook significant outreach efforts starting in 2020 to ensure the new center meets the diverse needs of the community. With a total area of 52,000 square feet, the facility will be open throughout the week, providing ample opportunities for residents to engage and connect.
