Redmond, WALocal News

The City of Redmond, Sound Transit, and Microsoft recently celebrated the grand opening of the new Redmond Technology Station Bridge with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by local officials and community leaders. This bridge serves as a critical link between the Sound Transit Redmond Technology light rail station, the SR 520 transit flyer stop, and Microsoft’s campuses, significantly improving accessibility for thousands of daily commuters. Mayor Angela Birney noted that the bridge enhances sustainable travel options, providing dedicated lanes for pedestrians and cyclists. The design, crafted by AECOM and engineered by Kiewit Engineering Group, incorporates functional canopies, landscaped planters, and benches to enhance the user experience. King County Executive Dow Constantine described the bridge as a hub that will facilitate transit for Microsoft workers and others throughout the Eastside.

Councilmember Claudia Balducci emphasized the bridge's importance in connecting passengers to the growing light rail system. Alice Jolla from Microsoft highlighted the bridge as a symbol of the company’s commitment to the local community and its collaborative efforts with city and transit officials. This project represents years of planning and cooperation, showcasing efforts to build a more interconnected transportation network in the Puget Sound region.
