Redmond, WALocal News

Redmond's Feed the Need food drive on October 4 successfully collected 3,826 pounds of food and $1,079 in donations to assist local families struggling with food insecurity. Mayor Angela Birney led the event, supported by volunteers including city council members and staff. “Even in a thriving community like Redmond, many of our residents still struggle to put food on the table,” Birney emphasized. Young resident Vedika Nar showcased community spirit by using her birthday money to donate food items. Currently, nearly 1,000 families in Redmond live below the poverty level, and food bank visits have surged by 24% over the past year.

Hopelink served over 3,000 Redmond residents in 2024, with more than 1 in 5 being seniors. The local food bank distributed nearly 100,000 pounds of food in June alone. “Addressing these issues takes a village,” stated Melissa Pederson, Hopelink VP of Development, highlighting the community's generosity in supporting those in need.
