Redmond, WALocal News

The City of Redmond's Feed the Need food drive collected an impressive 3,826 pounds of food and $1,079 on October 4, directly aiding residents facing food insecurity. Mayor Angela Birney led this community effort, rallying volunteers, including City Councilmembers and city staff. In her remarks, Mayor Birney noted, "Even in a thriving community like Redmond, many of our residents still struggle to put food on the table. " Young resident Vedika Nar exemplified community spirit by donating her birthday money to purchase food. With nearly 1,000 families living below the poverty level in Redmond, the demand for food assistance is increasing.

Hopelink reported serving over 3,000 residents in 2024, with more than 1 in 5 being seniors. The organization also noted a 24% rise in visits to their food markets over the past year. As SNAP benefits face reductions, community-driven initiatives like Feed the Need are crucial for addressing local food insecurity.
