Redmond, WALocal News

Redmond unveiled the "Redmond is Ready for the World" campaign, a strategic effort to enhance community connections ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Mayor Angela Birney stated the campaign reflects the city's welcoming and innovative spirit. The initiative aims to engage local residents, businesses, and visitors, showcasing Redmond as a vibrant community. With an expected influx of 750,000 visitors, Redmond seeks to leverage this opportunity to establish itself as a premier destination. The opening of Sound Transit’s light rail across Lake Washington will facilitate access to Seattle for World Cup events.

The campaign will run through next summer, coinciding with the U. S. 250th anniversary and local celebrations. Current programming includes "Soccer Stories," inviting community members to share personal soccer experiences, and a speaker series with Amazon to educate attendees about soccer fundamentals. Each program aims to strengthen community ties and ensure lasting impact beyond the World Cup.
